How can the government help NRI families repatriate a loved one's remains?

Mortal remains brought back to India

An NRI family in the United States faced the unfortunate death of a family member. They were distressed about the logistics and costs involved in repatriating the mortal remains to India. With the involvement of the Government of India and the Directorate of Public Grievances, they were assisted with documentation and costs. The mortal remains were brought back on time, allowing the family to perform the last rites with dignity.

If there had been any misconduct by government personnel during the process, the family could have filed a complaint against public authorities or raised grievances of public authorities. They could have also filed an Indian public authorities complaint if the matter was not resolved promptly. The strengthening of machinery for redressal of public grievance ensured that their concerns were addressed effectively.

Additionally, if the family had concerns about the transparency of the process, they could have filed RTI matters to inquire about the steps taken by the authorities.
