How NRIs Can Claim and Reactivate a Dormant Bank Account in India

To claim and reactivate a dormant bank account as an NRI, you can follow these methods: 

Online Activation: If your bank provides online banking, log in to your account, go to the service request section, and submit a request to activate the dormant account. Fill in the necessary details as required. If you have an NRI demat account, make sure you follow the procedure for activating the dormant account tied to your demat account for NRIs.

Visit a Branch: You can personally visit any branch of your bank in India to submit a request for reactivation of the account. Ensure that you ask about the NRI demat account opening procedure to avoid any confusion in the reactivation process.

Request by Mail:

Send a request letter along with the required documentation, which may include:

  • Dormant account activation form.
  • Know Your Customer (KYC) update form.
  • Valid identification (passport, Aadhaar card, etc.).

Once the account is activated, ensure you perform a debit or credit transaction to fully reactivate it.
